Oratory Suicide

7 Comprehensive Tips to Avoid Oratory Suicide

Oratory Suicide: Each of us at least once felt the fear of public speaking. Let’s take a look at the tools to reduce excitement before and during a performance.

Do you hear that too?

Knock-knock, knock-knock, knock … Heartbeats furiously, thoughts get confused, dry out in the mouth, palms and a thousand sweat, millions of pairs of eyes stare at you, prolonging the torture to infinity.

This is a fear of public speaking that is known to all of us. It is believed that the fear of speaking is in second place after the fear of death. As many oratorical trainers joke, some of us would prefer to dig ourselves into the ground so as not to go on stage.

Modern Oratory and Oratory Suicide

Well, all this can be overcome, and I suggest you do it together! I immediately warn that the article is not about magic pills for pain, it is impossible to kill fear, it can only be reduced .

Speakers very often commit suicide on stage, they have not even been touched by the public, and they have already begun to make mistakes and themselves succumb to provocations created by them.

With my five years of experience in speaking and preparing for them, I came across different situations and developed tips for my students. These practical techniques can take you to a whole new level, and prevent bloodshed on the stage.

1. Say affirmations

Do not be afraid of the word overseas. Affirmation is just a short phrase that a person should repeat to himself in a hearing or inwardly. This is the shortest phrase that many women repeat in front of a mirror in the morning: “I am the most charming and attractive!”

How can affirmation help us in speaking? To get started, write out phrases that spark you and inspire you. It can even be quotes from famous people or your own. Say this phrase several times before the speech, feel it. And go on stage.

You speak and here you notice that everyone is funny, but it is one man who sits with a sad, irritated face. Instead of hesitating, embarrassed, and changing your speech on the go, just tell yourself: “The speaker is not an ancient profession to satisfy everyone!” Or tell yourself any other phrase that distracts you from a person’s state.

Tip: if it hurts you so much, and you take the first steps in your speeches, then approach this person and ask what was wrong. In the first years of practice, I came up with it, and was amazed at the result. Most people said that they had a headache, they had a fight with someone, they were tired, they received an SMS from the boss. I had nothing to do with it!

And they all the same continued to sit at my speech, because they liked my speech.

2. Stop apologizing

We gradually come to the basics of instilling ourselves on the stage, because many people apologize for forgetting the text, forgot to show the picture, said the wrong word. My question always begs: “Do you know that people are not aware of your performance plan, and you can always turn everything into a plus ?!”.

The speaker’s golden rule: missed something, forgot, didn’t turn on the desired slide, pretend that this is how it should be. Many people would not have noticed your mistakes if you yourself hadn’t indicated them through the phrase: “Oh, sorry, please …”.

3. Use the help of the audience

Again we return to the main fear that you will forget something on the scene, for example, the definition of a word or what is included in the classification.

Use a coaching technique: ask the public what they think about it. Forgot your word? Ask: “What do you think this word means by itself?” Forgot what stage comes next? Ask: “What do you think we’ll take apart in the next step?”

It works flawlessly. Not only did you engage the audience and entertain it, but as long as they tell you, you will either hear the correct answer or remember it yourself.

4. Get out of situations

Look at the speech from a different angle, stop treating him like torture. You can always translate everything into a joke and jokes are acceptable in 99% of cases, who does not like to laugh?

Do you have a flipchart? We have such powerful energy in the hall that we demolished a flipchart!

Did the lights go out suddenly? We became so close during the performance that we decided to arrange an intimate atmosphere.

A climber washes a window at the training, and the whole hall was distracted? You see, we have such an interesting training that people try by all means to get on it!

5. Remove the gestures of the corpse

“How does a corpse gesticulate?” – No way, right.

Do not bury yourself at the very beginning. Do not stand in the defender’s pose while covering something below the waist. Do not put your hands in the house of “Merkel’s Angels”, you did not pour the glue in there a moment.

Hands help you convey more information, visualize the picture, help you hear. And do not just wave your hands, use them wisely. Here the famous game “Crocodile” will help you: in it you need to show words only with gestures without words.

After playing it several times, you will notice that some words in all languages of the world will visually look the same. So, if you say that you are working on a laptop, you will depict a gesture as if you were hitting the keyboard with your fingers.

You can also read the book “Body Language” by Allan Pisa , the author very accurately conveys the meaning of each gesture. This book will tell you how to behave in speeches and negotiations.

6. Speak like with mom in the kitchen

Remember how you sit with your mother in the kitchen and have intimate conversations with a cup of tea. You can tell her everything: the most secret, the most desirable, to discuss some urgent topic and to figure out something.

I’m more than sure that it never occurred to you that the performance was no different from talking with mom in the kitchen.

Modern oratory an  now modern oratory

The times of Demosthenes and long monologues have sunk into oblivion, now modern oratory . Talk to your audience, engage in dialogue, talk to them like your best friends.

Think of the performance not as the death penalty, but as if you were all friends going to figure out one very interesting topic. Yes, let them have a thousand or more people, so what?

Much depends on your attitude to the public. If you change your state and perception, then you will not have a single failed performance. And on stage you will look like an unreal speaker.

7. Focus on people

And the most important, seventh technique – stop being an egoist. When you say: “I’m afraid, they will make fun of me, they will evaluate me, they are this, they are that …”, you are not in a conscious state, you are immersed in your emotional experiences.

Take the focus off of yourself and your heartbreaking tantrums and focus on people. Tell yourself that now you will bring irreparable benefits to everyone and invest in its development. When you want to help people, when you want to benefit, there is no place for fear. Yes, and where can it come from if you want to help those gathered to understand: the topic, the report, the analytics, the phenomenon, the skill.

And the most interesting thing is that when you focus on people, you will never have skeptics in the audience or tricky questions from the audience. You simply won’t take it with hostility, you will consider that people want to understand more deeply and in more detail.

So, when you step onto the stage, remember these tips:

  1. Speak yourself short inspirational phrases if you feel that you are in the mood of one of the participants.
  2. Do not apologize for your misconduct, do not disappoint the public in your oratory, because they do not even know that the trick failed.
  3. The audience will always help if you invite her to deal with you.
  4. Do not be nervous, any, even the most incomprehensible situation, can be translated as a joke.
  5. Gesticulate! Be alive on stage!
  6. Sincere conversations and a change in perception are the keys to the hearts of listeners.
  7. Focus not on inner experiences, but on your incredible audience, they deserve it. After all, they came to you.

Use the tips, do not take my word for it, check everything in practice, and you will be pleasantly surprised. Even using one of the tips, you will remove psychological stress from yourself and the public.

And remember, if the whole room sits with bated breath, and one person with a sour mine, then just take air into your lungs and say to yourself: “I’m not a $ 100 bill to everyone to like.” Bright and memorable performances for you!
